Pre-Demolition
After gathering the tools and materials you need for your project, it’s time to prepare the area where you plan to lay your pavers. It’s always a good idea to call 1100 before you dig, to make sure that you don’t accidentally damage buried gas, water or electrical lines.
Demolition & Excavation
In the area where you will lay your pavers, remove any grass or existing hardscape surfaces, making sure to not hit any utility lines.
- For vehicular areas like driveways, excavate 150 mm required plus pavers thickness.
- For pedestrian areas, excavate 100 mm required plus pavers thickness.
- For an RV area or commercial vehicle area, excavate 200 mm mm required plus pavers thickness.
- Rule of thumb if your pavers are 50 mm which is by far common range in western Australia for general driveway you will need to dig out 150 mm in order to finish the paver to desire hight.
In this case we are going to use driveway paving installation
PRO TIP
1, Once you have dig-out the area it is good idea to re level the area and make it even again.
2, Spray some water and make the soil damp this will make sure it will compact at a much better rate and this will also determine how much sand you going to need to archive the desired level.
Installation of the road base
Once compaction is archived lay 80 mm roadbase evenly and relevel with landscaping rake or just use strate timber edge. damp it again with water and give it another compaction.
Until now you should have a solid base to start laying yellow sand or paving sand.
Installing paving sand
Spared evenly 40 mm of paving sand and damp with water and compact with plate compacter once compacted you should have smooth level of paving san which is easy to screed
Installation of paver

Use a paver to run side by side to shave off the excess sand and find the desired level. Once a level is found run a string line to the other end and make sure you have a fall 1 meter to 1 cm for instance if you paving area are 10 m long you should have 10 mm fall
